GSM stands for grams per square metre and measures fabric weight. Higher GSM generally means heavier fabric, but does not automatically mean higher quality. Cotton quality, yarn, knitting, finishing and construction all matter.

Lightweight T-shirts can feel airy and suit summer use or layering, although they generally create a lighter silhouette.

Around 180 GSM is commonly associated with relatively lightweight everyday T-shirts. The exact feel still depends on fibre, knit and finish.
